Responsive Giving

This programme provides single year grants to address specific challenges faced by our charity partners. In recent years this has been targeted to current or recent grantees, however each year a new focus and criteria are chosen so this may alter.
Support so far has included the cost-of-living crisis; grants to help charities reduce their carbon emissions and increase energy efficiency; and through-the-gate practical support for young men leaving prison.

Providing timely additional support
Responsive giving is about recognising additional pressures placed on our grantees by things beyond their control and assigning funds to help them overcome these challenges. This helps improve their long-term resilience and their ability to carry out core areas of their work.
Listening and responding
Informed by evidence provided by our grantees, the Leathersellers’ Foundation has held responsive grants programmes in 2021-22 and 2022-23. The first was the Jubilee Fund that provided grants totalling £210,000 to support our charity partners rebuild, strengthen and adapt their service delivery post-pandemic. The second supported ten of our charity partners with an additional grant of £15,000 each to help address increasing financial strains and growing levelsof demand due to the cost of living crisis.

Impact
From breakfast clubs to the cost-of living, responsive grants are helping grantees invest in the future.
Through-the-gate practical support for young men leaving prison
Young adults aged 18-30 years make up just over a quarter of the prison population in the United Kingdom. Almost half of the adult prison population will reoffend. With support from The Leathersellers’ Foundation’s Responsive Fund, London based prison resettlement charity Switchback is using the power of mentoring to help change this.

The Cost-of-Living Crisis 2022-23
As the cost-of-living crisis forced an estimated 6.6m UK households into fuel poverty, charities fought to keep their doors open, balancing rising costs with increasing demand for their services. We asked our grantees what they needed and how we could help.
Jubilee Fund 2021-22
